Business Types
When you create a Mobile Service Sync account, the first thing we ask is what kind of mobile service you run. Your answer tailors the rest of the setup: the starter jobs we suggest, the way the public booking widget collects pricing, and which integrations are surfaced in the in-app help.
You can change your business type later from Settings, but the starter jobs are only seeded once (during onboarding) so you'll want to pick the closest fit up front.
The three options
We support three operator verticals today:
- Mobile Lube - oil changes and routine fluid service at the customer's curb.
- Mobile Mechanic - diagnostics, brakes, batteries, and on-site repairs.
- Mobile Detailer - interior, exterior, and ceramic detailing at the customer's home.
If you do more than one of these (say, lube plus light mechanic work), pick the option that matches the majority of your bookings. You can build out the rest of your services manually from Settings -> Service Types after onboarding.
How the verticals differ
| Area | Lube | Mechanic | Detailer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter jobs | Synthetic, full synthetic, high mileage, diesel, plus common add-ons (air filter, wipers) | Diagnostic, battery, brake jobs, alternator, starter, serpentine belt | Exterior wash, interior detail, full detail, ceramic, headlight restore |
| Booking widget pricing | Per-quart with overage when capacity exceeds the included quarts | Flat-rate per service; add-ons priced from PartsTech catalogs | Per-vehicle-class price (car / truck / SUV / minivan / other) for each package |
| Parts catalog | Yes (PartsTech for add-on pricing) | Yes (PartsTech) | No - detailers don't need a parts catalog |
| QuickBooks Online | Supported | Supported | Optional, not required |
| Inspections | Optional | Often used to gate completion (sign-off photos before invoicing) | Optional |
The big shape difference is on the right side of the table. Detailer accounts skip every integration that exists to price parts and post sales to accounting: PartsTech, QuickBooks Online, and the mechanic-style inspection gating. None of those are torn out of the app (you can still turn them on if you want), but they aren't part of the recommended setup.
What happens after you pick
Picking a business type moves you to the standard onboarding form (business name, phone, service address, fleet size). After you save that, we show a checklist of starter jobs tailored to your vertical. Uncheck anything that doesn't fit and click Add selected and continue - the rest become editable rows in Settings -> Service Types.
If you'd rather start with a blank catalog, uncheck everything and continue. No starter jobs are created and you can build your service list from scratch.
Switching later
If you picked the wrong vertical, head to Settings -> Shop, change the Business type field, and save. The existing service types stay where they are (we don't delete anything), but new starter jobs from the other vertical won't be seeded - you'd add those manually. The booking widget will adjust on the next page load: detailer accounts get the per-vehicle-class picker; lube and mechanic accounts get the quart-overage flow.
